Chapters 4 thru 6; Night Visions & Coronation of Joshua
B.
The Night Visions Of Zechariah (Zech. 4:1 to 6:8)
5.
Vision # 5 (The Vision of the Gold Lamp Stand and the Two Olive Trees)
a. Zech . 4:l-3
Then the angel who talked with me returned and wake tied, me as a
man is wakened from his sleep. He asked me "What do you see?" I
answered, "I see a solid gold lamp stand with a bowl at the top and
seven lights on it, with seven channels to the lights. Also there
are two olive trees by it one on the right of the bowl and the other
on it’s left. (To be interpreted by the angel in Zech. 4 )
b.
Zech.4:4-14 The
Angel Gives Zechariah The Vision’s Interpretation
i. Zech.4:6 This
is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel
(a.) it’s a
prophecy for Zechariah’s time (521 B.C.)
(b.)
refer to
Ezra 5:1-2 for the chronicle of the rebuilding of the temple in
Jerusalem.
(c.) Zech.4:6
states the Lord’s total command of events "Not by might nor by
power, but by my Spirit says the Lord Almighty."
ii. Zech.4:8-9 The
hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple, his
hands will also complete it.
(a.) The
temple’s rebuilding took almost twenty years to complete (535 to
515 B.C.)
iii. Zech.4:10 Who
despises the day of small things? Men will rejoice when they see
the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel .
(a.) The Lord is
warning Israel not to mourn over the relative smallness of the
new temple, but rather to rejoice.
(b.) Read Haggai
2:20-23
iv. Zech.4:10-14
The angel interprets the vision
(a.) Zech.4:10
The seven eyes are the eyes of the Lord which range throughout
the earth. (ref. Zech.1:10)
(b.)
Zech.4:11-12 What are these two olive trees ....these two olive
branches,....
v. Zech.4:14 So he
said, These are the two who are anointed to serve the Lord of
all the earth. (ref. Dan.9:25)
6. Vision # 6 (Israel’s
curse - the Flying Scroll & Woman in Basket)
a. Zech.5:1-2 I
looked again and there before me was a flying scroll.
b.
Zech.5:3-4 And he said to me "This is the curse that is going out
over the whole land; for according to what it says on one side,
every thief will be banished, and according to what it says on the
other, everyone who swears falsely will be banished. Zech.5:7-8 Then
the cover of lead was raised and there in the basket sat a woman. He
said, "This is wickedness" and he pushed her back... (ref. Hosea
1:2-3, 3:1-5 )
c. Zech.5:5-11 Then I
looked up and there were two women.... and they lifted the basket
between heaven and earth. i.Jer.29:4-5 The Lord will remove sin from
Israel.
7. Vision #7 The Four
Chariots (Zech.6:1-8)
a.
Zech.6:1-4 I looked up again- and there before me were four chariots
coming out from between two mountains - mountains of bronze. The first
chariot had red horses, the second black, the third white, the fourth
dappled - all of them powerful. I asked the angel who was speaking to
me "What are these, my Lord?"
b. Zech.6:5-6 The
angel answered me "These are the four spirits of heaven, going out
from standing in the presence of the Lord over the whole earth."
i. It appears
that these same four spirits are present in Rev.6:2-5 in the
vision of the "seven seals."
ii. We also see
reference to the same spirits being present over the four wind
(corners) of the earth. (Ez . 37 : 9 , Mt .24:31, Rev.7:1)
c . Zech.6:7 When
the powerful horses went out, they were strained to go throughout
the earth. And he said, "go throughout the earth!" So they went
throughout the earth,
i. We see the same "going throughout the earth
in Zech. 1:8-11
d. Zech.6:8 Then
he called to me, "Look, those going toward the north country have
given my Spirit rest in the land of the north."
i. We see how the
Lord’s Spirit is not at rest until judgments and repentance have
been accomplished. ( E z . 5 ; 1 3 , 24:13, Zech. 1:10) ii. This
final vision is a sign of the Lord’s universal control over the
events of the future.
C.
The Coronation of Joshua (Zech.6:9-15)
1.
Zechariah is no longer having visions, but is receiving instructions
from the Lord over the crowning of Joshua (or Jeshua) as high priest.
a.
Apparently, we are now concerned with the "Post Babylonian Exilic
Period", (535-515 B.C.).
2.
Zech.6:9-11 Take the silver and gold and make a crown, and set it
upon the head of Joshua son of Jehozadak.
a.
Joshua is also known as Jeshua in Ezra 2:2, 3:2 b. Joshua is previously mentioned
in Zechariah's night vision being cleansed for the Lords anointed
position of high priest. Zech.3:1
3.
Zech.6:12 Tell him this is what the Lord Almighty says; "Here is the
man whose name is Branch and he will branch out from his place and
build the temple of the Lord,
a.
Again we see Joshua being symbolized as the Branch, which is the
symbol for the Messiah to come.
i. refer to
Zech.3:7-8, Jer.23:5, Jer.33:15, Is,4:2
4. Zech.6:13-15 It
is he who will build the temple of the Lord.....
a. These verses
pertain to Joshua the high priest, but also have reference to the
Messiah Yeshua in the Messianic Age. (Is.60:10, Is.58:12,
Zech.2:11, Zech.3:7)
