An
Open Letter Proposing The Establishment Of A "Grace Oriented Association Of
Messianic Believers"
Shalom,
As a Messianic Jew (Hebrew Christian) since 1973 and the director of the
Messianic Literary Corner, I am aware of the need for an organization of
Messianic Jews and supportive Gentile Christians who strongly believe in a
grace oriented gospel to deter the increasing acceptance of strict Torah
observance within the Messianic Jewish Movement. The "Doctrine of Grace",
endowed with new freedoms and responsibilities, revealed in the Pauline
epistles has now been incorrectly defined within much of the Messianic
Jewish Movement as subordinate to the Mosaic Law. Despite this great falling
away of Messianic Jews from the true gospel, many still desire to honor the
freedoms expressed in New Covenant teachings.
I believe the reason why the "gospel of grace" was overtaken by
Torah observant legalism is due to a "spirit of unbiblical compromise and conformation to a false spirit of religiosity" among Messianic Jewish
leaders. To make the situation worse, grace oriented Messianic
Jewish (Hebrew Christians) leaders have themselves been polarized by various
secondary issues. To reverse the stemming tide of legalism before the entire
movement is lost, we must put aside our differences and work together for
the common goal of the gospel.
I am proposing the establishment of an
association accepting both individuals and organizations for the goal of
propagating grace oriented teachings within the Messianic Jewish movement.
Such an association would be responsible for clearing up the confusion,
exposing and refuting the grace-like counterfeits and instilling a freedom
of worship that would honor the Lord and not rob Messianic Jews of their
rich heritage. This association should not become a "mutual admiration
society", but rather it should be structured to accommodate incoming
Messianic Jewish organizations changing from strict Torah observance to
"more biblical", grace oriented teachings. It should also
accommodate the
varying doctrine among grace oriented believers to prevent the division
that has arisen in the past.
I am suggesting that this proposed organization be established by those
leaders who understand the absolute necessity for such an organization to
arise. I will gladly lend any reasonable effort to assist in organizing this
proposed association if and when the Spirit prompts.
